Obituary for Dr. Edwin H. Ketchledge x’46

Edwin majored in Biology at the College before leaving to serve in WWII. Edwin was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service with the US Army Mountain Division’s ski troops during the war. After an honorable discharge, he attended SUNY College of Forestry, the University of Michigan, and Stanford University, where he earned a PhD in Botany. Edwin taught at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry until his retirement. He was awarded the SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor and the ES&F Lifetime Achievement Award and was highly respected for his research on the ecology of the mosses of NYS and the alpine tundra zone of the Adirondack High Peaks. Edwin’s wife, three children, and three grandchildren survive him.
